Abstract

Basil leaves, which are common and easily found by the public, have antibacterial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant and antipyretic properties. The active compounds in basil leaves include essential oils, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, steroids, tannins, phenols and eugenol. The papaya tree (Carica papaya Linn.) is well known as a nutritious plant or herbal that can cure several kinds of diseases. Every part of the papaya tree can be used, from the roots, stems, leaves, fruit and even the seeds. Papaya stems have potential as antioxidants containing flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, triterpenoids and tannins which are strong antioxidants. which aims to determine the physical quality of basil leaf simplicia and papaya tree stems. The water content in simplicia powder reaches 4.35%, and in papaya tree stems 4%. Extraction using 70% ethanol solvent resulted in a basil leaf yield of 12.32%, while papaya tree stems were 12.2% which complies with the standards of the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The results show that the basil leaves and papaya tree trunks meet the established quality standards.
